Is anyone surprised that football players suffer head injuries in greater relative percentages than others in the human population?
Apparently House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) is -- he wants to hold congressional hearings on the subject.
When one reads
stories like this, it is hard to disagree with people who argue that our political class -- perhaps the worst in history -- is populated with grandstanding buffoons like Rep. Conyers, who, incidently, has been in Congress since 1965, and is the second-longest serving member in the House.

As debate over football's long-term effects on players' cognitive function continues among doctors and the N.F.L., the discussion will soon move to Congress.
Representative John Conyers Jr., a Michigan Democrat and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced in a statement late Friday afternoon that the committee planned to hold hearings on the impact of head injuries sustained by N.F.L. players, "and what can be done to limit them and compensate the players and their families."
Maybe we ought to have hearings on why so many of our congressional representatives are such self-serving wastes of time, space, and money.
