In the words of the esteemed Texas philosopher, Kinky Freidman, Sarah Palin got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla than Joe Biden got running for president of the USA(or running for senator of Connecticut for that matter).
But really, Obama lost all pretense of being an 'agent of change' when he picked a half-bright terminal beltway cheese weasel and serial plagiarist like Joe Biden.
That's flat-out wrong, and I'm pretty disappointed in you for not even doubting something so obviously wrong, something that's been laughed at for being so pathetically wrong in several major newspapers. From the Washington Post:
"Biden collected a total of 63,157 votes during the Democratic primaries and caucuses this year. By contrast, Wasilla boasts a population of 9,780."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in all the hullabaloo about the size of Alaska and it having a relatively small population, etc., I don't remember hearing the same arguments being made when Howard Dean was running for president in 2004.
If I'm not mistaken, Vermont is one of a handful of states with less than a million people, just like Alaska -- I'll bet it might be smaller, too. Gee, I wonder why that is?
I don't have any problem with the size of Alaska, I have problems with how she ran it. As for people who want to quibble over it, you're right, Alaska has nearly 50,000 more residents than Vermont. However: 1) Howard Dean didn't even make it through the first few rounds of the primaries, 2) Howard Dean served at least one full term as governor, 3) Howard Dean never tried to claim foreign policy experience because he lives across the ocean from Germany, 4) Howard Dean didn't hire lobbyists to raise the highest per capita earmarks of any state for his little Vermont.
Many other reasons why they don't match, plenty of them in Palin's favor-- I just didn't feel any need to add them myself.
Your list is interesting, notwithstanding: 1), the fact that Dean was the front runner for months, and I don't recall the same argument being made during that time; 2), while it is a stretch for Palin to claim foreign policy experience, she did negotiate a huge public works project (the biggest ever, if I'm not mistaken) with Canada and does deal with Russia on a fairly constant basis -- not to mention the fact that Alaska is the only state that has it National Guard on a 24/7 stand by; 3), and one of the conveniently overlooked aspects of Alaska's 'earmarks per capita' is the fact that about 65% of it is owned by the feds, which is highly pertinent to such a discussion, i think.
I think the Kinkster was employing hyperbole(a favorite humor tecnique of his). I think its funny, even if it is a little off. But the fact remains that Biden brings very few, if any, votes to the ticket, despite running for president twice. A totally lackluster choice, I would say.
