Despite polls, some Democrats seem to think so, and they're hedging their bets by poisoning the well.
Susan Estrich:
The only way all these polls could be that far off is if people are lying in numbers never before seen in American politics. Why would they do that? You tell me it has nothing to do with race. I'll laugh. What else could it possibly be?
...It's time for this election to be over so we can stop worrying about what could go wrong and how bad things would be if it did. We need to think better of each other. After Tuesday, hopefully we will.
Estrich is smart, but she's also a good Democratic foot soldier. It's unfortunate that even with the lead, Democrats find it necessary to peddle this type of crap.
How could one be more disingenuous than to say that hopefully we'll think better of each other on Tuesday, but if my guy loses it's because of racist liars?
This is the woman who said on Fox News during the Democratic convention that if John McCain picked a woman VP, that it would essentially be over.
For Susan Estrich, the equation changed since August. A woman VP candidate ceased to be the tipping point, replaced by racism as though the collapse of the credit markets has since brought out the David Duke in all of us.
I believe she knows that's not true. But some people put party above country.
