I wonder if this will turn out like it did for me as a first time voter in 1976, when I cast a ballot for Jimmy Carter, who passed himself off as a moderate during the election. The high taxes on income (70% marginal income tax rate!), high capital gains tax, and 'windfall profits' tax on oil companies-among many other socialistic follies- only seemed to prolong a seemingly endless recession, a refractory inflationary spiral, and a horrendous decade-long bear market. This combined with a weak, pacifist foreign policy that had Cuban soldiers fighting revolutionary wars in Africa, Russians invading Afghanistan, and the fall of the Shah/ascent of Khomeni/hostage scenario in Iran, combined to cause the lowest level of national self-esteem in our country's history. I remember clearly what it was like, and it was really bad.
