Gentlemen,
Maybe you would have learned from the Bill Ayers fiasco that guilt by association is not going to work under the current environment. The country is simply in too much trouble for most people to be distracted innuendo, spurious claims and unsubstantiated allegations. There are simply no facts or evidence to support a substantial link between the corrupt Chicago machine and Barak Obama. As much as you don't want it to be true it seems that BO is in fact honest. He is in this thing to get things done and not cash in. You may disagree with what he wants to do and that is fair but stay away from the stupid stuff. No cash in the freezer, no back room deals to put his wife on corporate boards, no quid pro quo, nothing. Forming a headline with a leading question such as "Is Obama Hiding Affair With Goat?" and a sub headline with something like "President Elect refuses to deny bestiality" is not going to work. Neither is the steel trap logic of "Blago is guilty, he is from Chicago, Obama is from Chigago, therefore Obama is guilty." He is not going to fire Fitzgerald and he is probably not under investigation. Neither are any of his close advisors. While Rahm did make a lot of money in investment banking when he left the Clinton Administration he did nothing different than many in the investment banking industry. He got his cut for making deals but is seems that the deals he made were legal ones and the commissions he was paid were above board. It also seems likely that Rahm probably had some conversations with Blago or Blago's men. What else seems likely is that he immediately called the FBI to report whatever was said and was probably the catalyst for the bust going down when it did. As much as you want an early scandal or some other stain on the Obama presidency or to have your longtime Rahm Emanuel hatred justified it does not look like it is going to happen. I suggest you stick to policy and rooting the scumbags out of your own party before the next go round. Just saying.
Senate candidate #5 ($1 million bribe) = Jesse Jackson, Jr. = National co-chairman of Obama campaign.
I'd say that's fairly close to the messiah. It's not him. But his closest advisers are in this up to their eyeballs. Obama may not be personally corrupt, but he certainly has crappy judgment about his closest associates--Ayers, Pflager, and oh, yeah, his God-D--m America pastor. He's either stupid (highly unlikely), corrupt, or indifferent to corruption. You choose your poison, but any way you cut it, it's bad.
Dave you ignorant slut (always wanted to say that)
This is a stretch of the highest order. Just by trying to imply that William Ayers is one of Obama's closest advisors reveals the depth of your desire to hold on to a story that did not work. Nobody but you guys ever gave a rat's ass about Bill Ayers. This kind of proves the point I was making. You guys have been so invested in Barak Obama being a corrupt chicago pol, or a terrorist sympathizer, or a socialist or a traitor that you have walked out on a very thin limb. He hasn't even taken the oath of office already you want to bring him down. This is the same pattern from the 90's when Billy Clinton was elected. The Republican attack machine, which you are currently parroting, started before he got into office. It is my humble opinion that it won't work this time. There is just too much big stuff going on for the country to succumb the Kevin Bacon game of guilt by association. Take a deep breath. Put down your copy of National Review and recycle all of your Ann Coulter books. Think about what the problems of the country are and offer up some solutions that don't include blaming the poor, unions or illegal immigrants. You will be a much happier person for it.
Rusty, your boilerplate, which was never very enlightening, is only exceeded by your excessive use of the strawman argument.
And please, don't talk about Chicago politics if you haven't done the necessary research. It makes you sound like a mainstream journalist.
Actually, Tom, I was thinking Rusty is sounding more like a spinner than a journalist--but then I remembered that, where Dems are concerned, there's no difference.
I notice that Rusty didn't bother to even pretend to take issue with the central point -- that Obama's NATIONAL CO-CHAIRMAN is the guy who was trying to BRIBE the Governor to get Obama's Senate seat. Call me cynical, but I think Rusty is playing "hide-the-ball" because his guy has his pecker out in public with "dead meat." So, to review: "He's either stupid (highly unlikely), corrupt, or indifferent to corruption." I'm voting for indifferent. It'll be like the Grant administration.
Guys,
I am not trying to imply that Chicago Politics is clean by any stretch. I know a little something about the first ward, how most city jobs are given out to foot soldiers by their local aldermen. Chicago Politics is dirty and the party in power, the dems, are the seat of that corruption. Up to this point not a single substantial instance of illegal or unethical conduct has been linked to Obama directly or his his staff. It is certialny possible that it might but I don't think so. What is more likely is Dave's assertion that he turned a blind eye to corruption in order to advance his political career. How many politicians who come in railing against the machine and promising to fix the broken system actually advance to the hightst elected office in the land. If he let the corrupt Pols think that he might be willing to play ball or that there would be room for them on his coattails then good for him. The real test will be what does he do now that he is no longer beholden to the local machine.
Rusty:
Good on ya. Blago is the test. Obama was a senior advisor to Blago for governor. I haven't heard THE ONE say that Blago should step down, merely that being under indictment will make it hard for Blago to do his job. And, instead of calling for an election to replace him, THE ONE has merely said that the Illinois legislature should decide how to handle things. That's not leadership. That's voting "present." GUTLESS. |
