Tom,
you can't be serious. Look, if you can, at the stock market, the banking industry and all other financial institutions, housing, and every one of the working people of this country's pensions. They have lost 50% of value. Not to mention the huge number of jobs lost. You have no sense of the damage done at all, do you?
You are so full of it, Don.
What has what you've written here have anything to do with this excerpt? If the report is true, doesn't this go against all of Obama's campaign rhetoric about lobbyists? What nonsense.
Tom,
you are so full of it. You have no understanding of what's happening to this country and why the stimulus bill is being passed. Check your 401 K. God what a..
I believe there should be a stimulus package, just not this monstrosity.
There is so much crap in this bill that in no way can be considered an economic stimulus. It's filled with payoffs to Democratic Party interest groups under the guise of a stimulus package. And once again, I notice you ignore the inconvenient facts set out in this report. But I expect no less from you...
OK, Tom. You win. Worry not; support the Republicans. See where you end up.
Again, I find it curious that you haven't addressed the point of the quote.
On second thought, maybe not.
The point of the quote: staffers don't know what's happening. That's because they AREN'T ALLOWED to talk about it. Lobbyists know a detail or two. Big deal; staffers are peanuts. Let the Big Boys announce FINAL DEAL. There better be one.
That the dems would spend a $trillion to hand out cookies to their interest groups is reckless in the extreme.
I read the whole post at it's source and it did not mention if the lobbyists were R's or D's or what industries they represent. It could be that some Dems gave the lobbyists who are lining their pockets the relevant portions of the legislation, or maybe a Rebublican gave them something to use as ammo against the dems. The most plausible scenario is that Rhambo walked it over to K street and personally handed it over to his lobbying buddies. That's the ticket.
I find myself in complete agreement with Rusty about the most likely scenario.
Only slightly less is plausible is that the K Streeters handed it Rhambo, and he gave it to Nancy and Harry, with instructions. That's the Chicago way.
My impression is that lobbyists are generally political agnostics; they will lobby whoever is in power to get goodies for their interest groups.
